@Joe Smith…The so called DIRECTORS CUT is an absolute travesty, don’t bother with it..The Theatrical Cut is just perfect. Enjoy!

I think it’s because director Milos Forman hated that cut. The true director’s cut was the theatrical. He said WB only released it to make money.

I read there is one important addition in the director’s cut: >The director’s cut includes an essential scene between Salieri and Constanze in which he humiliates her which is vital to understanding the emotional impact and the subtext of their final encounter at the end of the film. The theatrical cut omits this scene, presumably because of nudity, and thus their final encounter is bland, nearly unmemorable.
