Release Notes
For the first time on BD or DVD, the UHD includes the original mono mix. In addition to the mono mix, the UHD also includes a new surround remix sourced from newly discovered sound elements. This surround mix offers a significant boost in clarity and is (IMO) the superior track, but the overall mix is quite different from the mono. As discussed in previous releases, the 2013 surround mix does a good job at staying faithful to the mono mix, particularly in comparison to the 1992 Dolby SR remix that features on the JPN BD and also the 1993 JPN LaserDisc [OML-2023S], which was also compared for this remux. The 2013 surround mix was included as an alternative option as it’s still a proper remix but is much closer to the mono in sound than the 2024 surround mix, giving viewers an extra option if they prefer the more compressed sound of the mono but still want a surround presentation. The original mono mix’s only previous appearance on home video is the 1984 JPN LaserDisc and (potentially) some pre-1992 VHS releases, but these tracks were unavailable to me for comparison.
