Source #1: Criterion Collection USA Blu-ray (video, audio, commentary subtitles, chapters) - thanks TMT!
Source #2: New Line Cinema R1 NTSC DVD (audio) - thanks anonymous!

The 4K restoration is a big upgrade over the older HD master in every way: detail, grading, and respect for the theatrical AR. The Amazon WEB-DL is essentially an upscale of the DVD in terms of detail.

The new UHD/BD includes a transfer of the original LCRS DME stems from 35mm mag track elements. In essence, this is an unfolded version of the Dolby Stereo mix that was heard in theaters. The old 5.1 mix, on the other hand, is a completely different remix that features lots of added crowd noise, ambient sounds, and other foley effects, particularly for the scenes at the party. The 5.1 mix sounds muffled relative to the new transfer from the mag elements, with music especially sounding much more crisp and "e;up front"e; in the original LCRS mix. Personally, I find the old 5.1 mix's added effects and music remixing make the party scenes feel more appropriately "e;lively"e; (probably why they went out of their way to remix it for home video) whereas the original mix often has a noticeable separation between the music and the diegetic party sounds, which can sometimes be distracting. Both have been included with the 5.1 needing only an offset to sync.

The 2.0 track included on the Amazon WEB-DL and DVDs is a downmix of the 5.1 remix, not a transfer of the original Dolby Stereo mix. The new audio transfer is 4.0 in a 5.1 container, so this track was re-encoded with a 1509 kbps core. The surrounds were confirmed to be dual mono prior to re-encoding.

Subtitles from the BD were OCR'd, spellchecked, included in SDH and non-SDH versions, and demuxed from source. No other subtitles were available from any other retail source, unfortunately. Named chapters from source #1 were adjusted to the nearest I- or P-frames where necessary.
